Taiwan faced devastation on April 3 as a powerful earthquake, measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale, struck the region, claiming nine lives and leaving over a thousand injured. The seismic event wreaked havoc on buildings, prompting widespread panic and triggering tsunami alerts that reached as far as Japan and the Philippines.

The viral clip depicts a man grappling with the violent waves generated by the earthquake while trapped in the pool. Despite the perilous situation, the man maintains his composure, refusing to budge from his position.

Additionally, another video surfaced on social media, revealing water cascading like a waterfall from the side of a skyscraper, originating from a rooftop swimming pool.

According to reports from the Agence France-Presse (AFP), this earthquake stands as the most powerful to strike Taiwan in 25 years, with authorities cautioning of potential aftershocks in the coming days. Taiwanese officials compare its intensity to the 7.6 magnitude quake that rocked the nation in 1999, claiming the lives of 2,400 people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended condolences to Taiwan, expressing solidarity with its resilient populace in the face of this tragedy. He conveyed his sorrow via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to earthquakes in Taiwan today. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. We stand in solidarity with the resilient people of Taiwan as they endure the aftermath and recover from it.”
